By popular request club tournaments included a Men's Singles Plate draw for the first time. Due to the large entry for the Men's Singles the Plate had 11 starters and provided the closest final I can ever remember. Stuart Hopton and Peter Arguile slugged it out for several hours and could only be split by a third set tie-break.
The other big story was the start of what I'm sure will be Tom Buckle's senior era. Including the Men's Singles he only dropped a single set in all three of the draws he entered (well done Laurie!) The singles final was a tense affair with Ole doing nothing wrong but simply not having a way to consistently get the ball past his sixteen year old opponent.
It was nice to see Alex Wingent pick up yet another trophy in his last of nineteen years at Abingdon (even if it was at my expense again!)
This was the first Finals' Day of the nine I've run where all
finals were played on the day so many thanks for your flexibility
to help achieve this. Another beautiful Autumn day too - our luck
will have to run out one year. Thanks to Ethan and Zoe for
helping with the BBQ as well. Full results were as follows:
