The Family Doubles is a fun event run on the Saturday morning after the main Open event. This year we had five families, including a Grandad who entered with his granddaughter, showing there is no restriction on the upper age limit of the parent!
A round robin event was played. The first round proved to be a lengthy affair, with the first round players still battling it out on court 45 minutes after the event started. The format was hastily adjusted to two short sets only. Zoe Oliver was the youngest competitor, and although she played with orange balls the use of the full size court caused her a few problems.
The final standings could not have been closer. The Oliver's (Jason and Ross) won three of their four games, whilst the Kelly pairing of mother and daughter also won three of their four matches, but managed to battle to a draw in their fourth match meaning they edged the title by half a match.
