An LTA Grade 4 Tournament

Thank you for visiting the Abingdon Open 2018 pages. This year the
tournament ran from Monday 13th August through to Thursday 16th
August. Entries were a little down on last year, and apart from the
Thursday morning, we were graced with good weather.
I would again like to thank Julia Freeman (pictured right) for refereeing the entire tournament. Also, my thanks go to Jim Eastwood for his expertise on the IT side of things, and keeping the Abingdon Tennis Club web site up to date with all the competition details.
Finally, thank you to all the competitors for the excellent tennis they put on. There were many matches that were played to a high standard. The sportsmanship was again first class. Thank you to all of you for making the Abingdon Open Tennis Tournament 2018 another week to remember for a long time.

Results from earlier year are available by selecting the Open button for the year of interest to you.
If you are looking at these pages because you played in the Open this year, or are looking to play in the Open next year, I would be interested to get your feedback on the nature of the planning of a tournament you would like. As a tennis player, tournament organiser, coach, and general tennis fan, I would like to put on a full tennis tournament. This means for yellow ball matches playing tie break sets to 6, with a match tie break third set. However, if we play this format, the LTA guidelines only allow two matches a day. This means a draw of more than 4 would need to be run over 2 days, more if over 16 players enter. Alternatively we can run a competition of 16 players over one day if we operate the Fast Four format.
