This year's Abingdon Open ran from Monday 11th August to Thursday 14th August. Although the numbers were slightly down on last year, we were graced with reasonably good weather. There were a couple of rain interruptions on the first three days, but these were all short, and with the excellent drainage properties of the Abingdon playing surface, and the sunshine that appeared immediately after the rain, all matches were completed on time.
The junior tournament was followed as usual by the Family Doubles and the Preston Bowl, both of which took place on Saturday 16th August. Again, a day graced with lovely sunshine.

My thanks are extended to Julia Freeman who, again, refereed the event with her usual calm efficiency. Whilst this year was my first as Tournament Director, my thanks are extended to James Eastwood for his invaluable help and support on the technology side of the event, without which I think I would still be entering the results. A special thanks to Bev and Bee Woodcock who again ran the tuck shop, and the barbecue which received warm praise.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the players and parents for the sportsmanship and fair play we saw all week. The play was of a high standard, and all players should be proud of the way they handled themselves both on and off court. It was a pleasure to be involved.
We look forward to seeing all the players and parents again in 2015, when the Open will run from 10th to 15th August.
