Family Doubles entrants
The Family Doubles competition was played as two round-robins followed by elimination rounds for the top two pairs in each group. The matches brought out a great deal of laughter mixed with some serious tennis. Pairing juniors with adults really showed how good the junior players are! It was enjoyable to see the juniors uging the adults to try harder and giving them stern looks when they did not come up to scratch, rather than the other way round.
Group A was all male and was dominated by the Passau and Sunderland family pairs. The final match between these two pairs put the Passau's to the top of the group.

Group B had mothers and younger players in
it. The matches were much closer than those of Group A, and the
round-robins took an hour longer to complete than for those of Group
A. Bethany and Garrett Nagle and the Halgreen family had the closest
match, with victory eventually going to the Halgreens 10-8 in the
tie-break. The crunch match of Group B was the all-Nagle family
match. Garrett and Bethany emerged triumphant over Patrick and Angela,
probably because Patrick had run out of energy running around his
mother all morning! Luke Schofield suffered a similar burn-out,
leaving Bethany and Garett Nagle and the Halgreen family teams in the
elimination stage.

The Halgreen family team went from strength to strength, winning their semi-final against the Sunderlands and the final against the Passau family. The father in their opposition in the semi-final was unable to continue to the third place play-off match, and so Bethany and Garrett Nagle took third place, with the exhausted Sunderlands going into fourth place.
